We wish you a safe and pleasant journey and remind you that the speed limit in most French towns is 50 kph (30mph). The town nameplate indicates entering a restricted zone, when you see the town nameplate with a red line through it you have left it.
Look out for the Gendarmes, because they're looking out for you!
NOTE THAT MUCH OF THE RECOMMENDED ROUTE IS MOTORWAY AND SECTIONS OF IT ARE FREE, THE PAY SECTIONS ARE WELL WORTH PAYING FOR. CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED.
From CALAIS take the autoroute A16 & A.28 to ROUEN. Now take a further section of Autoroute and dual carriageway from the outskirts of ROUEN to EVREUX. From CALAIS to EVREUX is about two and a half hours. From EVREUX N.154 to DREUX, CHARTRES, and ORLEANS. Now take the autoroute A.71 & A.20 to LIMOGES, this is now all motorway, some of it free. The autoroute is a very pleasant road providing easy steady motoring.
Leaving LIMOGES you follow signs to AIXE-SUR-VIENNE N.21 and then to CHALUS, THIVIERS, SORGES and PERIGUEUX, all on the N.21. At TRELISSAC which is 4 km outside PERIGUEUX, there is a large roundabout (LECLERC is on your right) take the N221 signed BORDEAUX, BERGERAC, and BRIVES. At BOULAZAC take the 12 o'clock exit signed BORDEAUX and BERGERAC. Take the road past the war memorial (Memoire), at the following roundabout take the N2089 signed BRIVE, BERGERAC and CAHORS and the N89.
In a few miles you will come to a new roundabout, continue straight on past the Tractor Showrooms on your right!! You are now on the N89. Continue on this road, just past the Railway carriage graveyard on your right you will come to a large roundabout, take the right hand slip road immediately after the level crossing onto the D710 sign posted to Sarlat, and Le Bugue.
Stay on the D710 for approximately 20 miles following the signs to Le Bugue and passing through the villages of Les Versannes, La Douze and Mortemart. You will see two or three signs for Ste Alvere, completely ignore them. At Le Bugue, follow the one way system right, past the Gendarmerie. As the road bends to the left at the Fire Station the road forks, take the right hand fork (continuing straight on). Here you will see the sign for Ste. Alvère, Lalinde and Bergerac, carry straight on past the Hotel Le Cygne and you are now on the D703.
You should just be able to glimpse the Vézère river on your left. Continue for approximately five miles past the turnings for Limeuil and Paunat on your left and La Plumardie on your right.
As you approach a wide right hand bend you will see a large white agricultural hanger above you on your left. A little further on you will see a group of small white signs on your right marked
La Plumardie, Borderage and Les Lavandes. Turn right here and follow the track round past the
little farm with the barking dog, for half a mile. As the track bends right for La Plumardie, carry straight on past the green letterbox and the sign for Les Lavandes, along 'Long Lane', around the field to the parking area.
We are situated approximately 8kms (5 miles) from Le Bugue and 6 kms (4 miles) from Ste. Alvère on the D703. We are 40 kms
