There are some wonderful markets or Farmers Markets in the Dordogne, one for every day of the week. Below
are some, but by no means all of them.
Monday
Ste. Alvère.
Small but worth the visit. Mainly local produce but has a world famous Truffle market from December until March.
Tuesday
Le Bugue.
Very good, one of the best in the area. Everything from a Lawnmower to Heinz baked beans. The fish stall near the Gendarmerie is a must.
Trèmolat.
Small market, but the village is well worth the visit. See our Restaurant Guide for some recommendations.
Wednesday
Bergerac.
This is actually two markets. A huge food market, then a short distance away another market for clothes etc, all in the old town around the Cathedral. There are also lots of good shops and Restaurants. The old part of town is a must see.
Thursday
Lalinde.
Very good. The specialty here is the barbecued chicken and quails, but you need to get your order in ASAP as they sell out quickly. The fresh trout is highly recommended.
Domme.
Set up in the square by the ramparts a great little market with lots of character and local produce
Friday
Le Buisson.
Another very good market with plenty of variety in cheeses, meats, and wines. Many local vegetable and fruit growers sell here. Don’t forget the Foie Gras.
Saturday
Sarlat.
Probably the largest in the area and well worth the trip. You need to get there early as parking can be a problem later on in the morning. Explore some of the side streets and alley ways with their stone roofs and take a step back in time.
Le Bugue.
Smaller than the Tuesday market, but still worth the visit. The new covered market by the Maire is of interest
Sunday
St.Cyprien.
A perfect way to spend a Sunday morning among the aromas of cheeses and fresh flowers, a true taste of French life.
Issigeac.
Near Eymet, a good market, with lost's of local and English produce. A good place to play Spot the French Man!!
